Logics with approximate premises

چکیده
M. Ying proposed a propositional calculus in which the reasoning may be approximate by allowing the antecedent clause of a rule to match its premise only approximately. The aim of this note is to relate Ying’s proposal to an extension principle for closure operators proposed by the authors. In this way it is possible to show that, in a sense, w Ying’s apparatus can be reduced to a fuzzy logic as defined by Pavelka J. Pavelka, ‘‘On fuzzy logic I. Many valued rules of inference,’’ Zeitschrift fur Math. Logik und Grundlagen Ž .x Math., 25, 45]52 1979 . Q 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Personalisation - An Emergent Institutional Logic in Healthcare?; Comment on “(Re) Making the Procrustean Bed? Standardization and Customization as Competing Logics in Healthcare”
This commentary on the recent think piece by Mannion and Exworthy reviews their core arguments, highlighting their suggestion that recent forces for personalization have emerged which may counterbalance the strong standardization wave which has been evident in many healthcare settings and systems over the last two decades. These forces for personalization can take very different forms. The comm...
متن کاملModalities in Substructural Logics
This paper generalises Girard's results which embed intuitionistic logic into linear logic by showing how arbitrary substructural logics can be embedded into weaker substructural logics, using a single modality whichèncodes' the new structural rules. Logics 1 1. Logics Logic is about valid deduction. One central result in logic is the deduction theorem. A; ` B if and only if`A ! B This result t...
متن کاملA General Characterization of Adaptive Logics∗
This paper contains a unified characterization of adaptive logics. The general structure is presented in the simplest possible guise, both for flat and prioritized adaptive logics. The latter are presented as a special case of combined adaptive logics. The aim of the paper is to provide the general framework underlying several other papers in this volume and to prepare the unified metatheory of...
متن کاملMonotonicity and Persistence in Preferential
An important characteristic of many logics for Arti cial Intelligence is their nonmonotonicity. This means that adding a formula to the premises can invalidate some of the consequences. There may, however, exist formulae that can always be safely added to the premises without destroying any of the consequences: we say they respect monotonicity. Also, there may be formulae that, when they are a ...
متن کاملNarrowing Down Suspicion in Inconsistent Premise Sets∗
Inconsistency-adaptive logics isolate the inconsistencies that are derivable from a premise set, and restrict the rules of Classical Logic only where inconsistencies are involved. From many inconsistent premise sets, disjunctions of contradictions are derivable no disjunct of which is itself derivable. Given such a disjunction, it is often justified to introduce new premises that state, with a ...
